Strengthening security of tenure is considered a key outcome of the LAND-at-scale program as a pre-condition to improved livelihoods, resilience, and sustainable resource use. LAND-at-scale interventions employ a range of tools to achieve tenure security, in particular land mapping and registration. Despite the popularity of such interventions, the assumptions underpinning the impact pathways from registration to tenure security and derived outcomes such as improved livelihoods are not always built on a solid evidence base.

During this webinar, a first validation of the findings of a state-of-the-art study that forms part of an ongoing learning trajectory in which different views on tenure security are disentangled with a focus on unraveling the evidence to strengthen assumptions underlying land registration interventions will be presented. Central questions that need answers evolve around the conditions for land registration interventions to contribute to tenure security, and the differentiation in impacts and risks associated with such interventions. The presentation will be followed by break-out sessions that provide a space to engage in an interactive debate on some of these core questions and their underlying assumptions. The event will be rounded off with a plenary panel to bring the lessons and insights together.

It is hoped that this event will equip stakeholders in the wider land governance community to better identify suitable opportunities for, measure the impact of, and manage adverse risks of, land registration for strengthened tenure security and improved livelihoods.
