The report Understanding the African Civic Tech Ecosystem: Exploring the "Playing Field" and Evaluating Potential, published by the Civic Tech Innovation Network (CTIN) as part of the African Union Civic Tech Fund (AUCTF) 2.0 programme, offers a comprehensive analysis of the civic technology landscape across Africa. It maps over 290 civic tech initiatives documented in CTIN’s African Civic Tech Atlas, aiming to identify key actors, challenges, and opportunities within the ecosystem. The study emphasises the importance of sustained funding, partnerships, digital skills training, and civic education to support and scale civic tech projects. It also highlights the need for institutional and policy support, encouraging governments to view civic tech as complementary to their efforts. By providing a baseline understanding of the current state of civic tech in Africa, the report seeks to inform strategies for strengthening and expanding these initiatives across the continent.
