The Innovation for Inclusive Development (IID) Seminar, hosted by uKESA (CSIR) in collaboration with the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI), will take place on 16 July 2026 from 15:00 to 16:30. Titled "Towards Circular and Regenerative Cities: Rethinking Urban Systems for Sustainable Human Settlements in South Africa," the seminar will explore how South African cities can transition from traditional linear models of resource consumption to circular and regenerative urban systems that promote sustainability, resilience, and socio-economic inclusion. Bringing together experts from academia, industry, and urban practice, the session will examine how integrated approaches to managing water, energy, food, waste, and the built environment can create more efficient, adaptive, and restorative cities. Through thought-provoking presentations, practical case studies, and interactive discussion, participants will gain insights into scalable solutions and innovative strategies that can support sustainable human settlements, strengthen urban resilience, and address South Africa's unique challenges of inequality, climate change, resource constraints, and spatial transformation.
