Municipal Capability & Partnership Programme

South Africa

This article introduces the Municipal Capability & Partnership Programme (MCPP), a collaboration between Anglo American and the Department of Cooperative Governance (DCoG), with the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) as an implementing partner to support service delivery and development in mining regions. Using a problem- and outcomes-based approach, the programme aims to strengthen the capability of Municipal Partners, including municipal officials, mining representatives, and other stakeholders to improve development impact, solve service delivery challenges, and facilitate economic transition and diversification. The programme has observed improvements in water quality, water balance reporting, integration of strategic plans and processes, and collaboration between partners in developing joint spatial visions for the areas.
