The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs has invited the South African public, civil society, public institutions, interested stakeholders and all three spheres of government to provide comments on the Review of the White Paper on Local Government by responding to this discussion document (PDF, 12.3 MB). 


People or institutions wishing to submit written comments on the discussion document and specifically the questions contained in Annex Three 3 in the document (see page 67 of the PDF), should do so on or before 30 June 2025.


The official invitation to comment was published on the PMG site (PDF, 145 KB) and on the South African government information site


The discussion document, released on 10 April 2025, outlines nine policy priority areas for transformation, including financial reform, the depoliticisation of municipal administration, and the reduction of spatial inequality.
