Report

Africa

This report examines how African cities can leverage rapid urbanisation as a driver of sustainable economic growth while addressing climate change and development challenges. Based on evidence from Ethiopia, Kenya, and South Africa, the report argues that investing in compact, connected, clean, and climate-resilient urban development can generate substantial economic benefits, improve living conditions, reduce environmental risks, and strengthen long-term prosperity. It emphasizes the need for coordinated action across national and local governments, innovative financing mechanisms, and greater public and private investment to unlock the capital required for sustainable urban transformation and to ensure that Africa’s cities become engines of inclusive and resilient growth.
