The Finding Our Rhythm: Gauteng Scenarios 2035 report uses scenario planning to explore three possible futures for Gauteng based on key drivers: economic performance, living conditions, and governance. It outlines a moderate path (“It’s About Time”), where gradual reforms stabilise the province but deep challenges like inequality and unemployment remain; a worst-case scenario (“Homeless”), marked by political instability, authoritarianism, economic decline, worsening inequality, and social breakdown; and a best-case scenario (“Paradise Road”), where effective governance, economic diversification, and social investment lead to inclusive growth, reduced poverty, and improved wellbeing. The report emphasises that these are not predictions but tools for strategic planning, arguing that Gauteng’s future depends on coordinated action to strengthen governance, grow the economy, and reduce inequality, with the goal of achieving a more inclusive and resilient development path by 2035.
