This book examines how African countries responded to the COVID-19 pandemic through innovation and what these experiences reveal about building more resilient, inclusive and adaptive societies. Using a transformative innovation policy lens, the book traces shifting pandemic narratives from emergency response and state-led action, to recovery, inequality and post-pandemic adaptation, and highlights the critical role of public sector governance, evidence-based decision-making and systemic innovation. It shows how the crisis exposed structural weaknesses but also created opportunities in areas such as digitalisation, regional collaboration and local problem-solving, offering lessons for addressing future complex challenges beyond the pandemic.
