The accelerating process of urbanisation, characterised by high density living, presents unprecedented challenges, as well as opportunities. With more than half the global population living in urban areas, and approximately a billion people living in slums, cities are seen as the new 'human laboratories'.
In this online webinar, the Holos-Earth Project will investigate what role holistic thinking will play in addressing these challenges and opportunities. This conversation will be guided by urban analyst and policy authority, Llewellyn van Wyk. He will help explore what role, if any, smart cities might have in that transition, and especially what citizens can do about that. Llewellyn suggests the complexity and scale of urban infrastructure requirements exceed the capacity of public authorities to manage it.
