The IoS Fair Transitions Platform (UU) and LANDac are jointly organising a conference and summit, following a successful collaboration in the previous year. This event aims to address the unfairness associated with ongoing transitions for climate change and clean energy. Acknowledging the significant challenges in making these transitions just and fair, the organisers emphasise the disproportionate burdens placed on communities in the Global South and marginalised populations in the Global North. The conference and summit will explore ideas for achieving justice in the face of these challenges, considering that existing laws and institutions claiming to be inclusive may fall short and be manipulated by elites. The event seeks to move beyond technical and managerial approaches, emphasising a commitment to justice to avoid procedural dispossession and ensure fair outcomes in the context of climate policies and green investments. The summit will conclude with an experimental, more-than-human approach to democracy, and limited hybrid participation options will be available.
