Co-production of actionable knowledge is a development strategy that promotes collaborative partnerships between communities, researchers, and institutions to jointly generate practical solutions for urban challenges. It seeks to share power and enable meaningful community participation in shaping urban futures from housing and land access to services and livelihoods through collective, context-driven interventions. While acknowledging that co-production can sometimes reproduce existing power hierarchies if stripped of its transformative intent, it remains an incremental but potentially powerful approach to reimagining urban planning and governance. By grounding planning processes in local realities and fostering shared learning, co-production holds the potential to make cities more inclusive, equitable, and responsive to the needs of their inhabitants.
