This dashboard titled Housing Developments in the Nairobi Metropolitan Area is a tool developed by the Centre for Affordable Housing Finance in Africa (CAHF) in collaboration with FSDKenya and FSDA-Investments as part of the Open Access Initiative. It aims to address the information gap regarding housing projects within the Nairobi Metropolitan Area (NMA). The dashboard provides detailed information on approximately 30,000 housing units across over 1,000 projects in four out of the five counties in the NMA: Kiambu, Kajiado, Nairobi, and Machakos. It notably excludes Murang’a County, which is primarily agricultural and characterised by self-built housing units. The dashboard offers various data points on the status of current, underway, and planned housing projects, including their precise locations, price points, density, unit typology, utilities, service charges, and amenities.

The data was collected by CAHF from developer websites, brochures, and interviews, with 2022 data collected in November and December of that year and 2021 data collected throughout the year. Going forward, CAHF and its partners plan to continue collecting this data annually and invite developers to review, amend, and submit their data on an ad hoc basis throughout the year, ensuring the dashboard remains up-to-date and comprehensive. Overall, the dashboard serves as a valuable resource for stakeholders involved in housing development and urban planning in the Nairobi Metropolitan Area, providing crucial insights into the housing market landscape.
