This project is a collaborative effort involving GreenCape, with funding support from the Green Climate Fund and implementation managed by the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO). The project is designed to advance clean energy technology solutions in the context of municipal wastewater treatment works in South Africa. The primary objective is to enhance the readiness of the Green Climate Fund to invest in projects related to energy efficiency and renewable energy within municipal wastewater treatment facilities.

The project consists of a three-episode series that delves into established technologies, important considerations for financiers, and due diligence processes for energy efficiency and renewable energy projects specifically in the Municipal Wastewater Treatment Works sector. The ultimate goal of this initiative is to facilitate the utilisation of climate finance in this area by demonstrating how Energy Efficient and Renewable Energy applications can be effectively deployed to improve the sustainability and environmental impact of municipal wastewater treatment facilities in South Africa. By doing so, the project aims to contribute to mitigating climate change and reducing carbon emissions in the wastewater treatment sector.
