UKZN Press, The Book Lounge, and the African Centre for Cities invite you to the launch of Apartheid Remains by Sharad Chari. The event will feature a conversation with Sharad Chari, Omar Badsha, and Caroline Skinner. The book delves into the enduring legacies of segregation and apartheid in Durban, South Africa, through historical and ethnographic research. Chari highlights how South Durban's residents have mobilized against spatial and racial injustices, drawing on traditions from the Indian Ocean and Black Atlantic. His work intertwines Marxism, feminism, and Black studies to explore the spatial and embodied remnants of history and the ongoing struggles against racial capitalism and environmental suffering. Sharad Chari is an Associate Professor at UC Berkeley and a Research Associate at WiSER. Apartheid Remains is published by UKZN Press.
