The Design for Greater Efficiency (DfGE) course is a 3-day in-person training programme that builds climate literacy and equips learners to design resource-efficient, low-carbon buildings. Offered by IFC (World Bank Group) and hosted by Solid Green Consulting, the course is aimed at senior architecture and engineering students, building practitioners, and professionals with basic technical skills. It covers global building impacts, bioclimatic and passive design, energy and water efficiency, HVAC systems, lighting, photovoltaics, materials, embodied carbon, and making the business case for green design. The programme includes hands-on exercises using the EDGE app and concludes with a final design project. The course will run on 17–19 March 2026 (Johannesburg) and 12–14 May 2026 (Cape Town), and offers 3 CPD credits for architects and engineers. Successful participants receive an IFC certificate.
