Adequate housing is increasingly recognised as a fundamental human right and a key driver of sustainable urban development, contributing to health, safety, dignity, social inclusion, economic opportunities, and environmental sustainability. Global frameworks such as the Sustainable Development Goals (particularly SDG 11) and the New Urban Agenda emphasise the need for safe, affordable, resilient, and sustainable housing for all. In the face of climate change, economic shocks, pandemics, and social instability, housing plays a critical role in strengthening resilience and human security by improving living conditions, protecting livelihoods, and reducing disaster risks. Innovative approaches such as the 15-Minute City promote accessible, mixed-use neighbourhoods where essential services are within easy reach, while peer learning frameworks support knowledge sharing, policy innovation, and improved housing governance. This theme highlights the importance of integrated planning, institutional collaboration, and community-centred solutions to advance resilient, inclusive, and sustainable human settlements that enhance quality of life for current and future generations.
