Online Book Talk #4, part of the Local and Urban Governance book series, will take place on Thursday, 16 April 2026, from 13:00 to 14:30 UTC. The event brings together editors and scholars to discuss three open‑access academic books that examine local government from a comparative urban–rural perspective.

The session focuses on how local governments worldwide manage municipal tasks and financing, institutional structures and intergovernmental relations, and citizen participation amid growing urbanisation and shifting urban–rural dynamics. The books draw on findings from a Horizon 2020 international research project, covering case studies from six continents and highlighting both urban and rural governance challenges.

Key themes include public service delivery models, financial equalisation, decentralisation, inter‑municipal cooperation, and participatory governance approaches such as participatory budgeting and digital participation.

The online discussion will feature presentations, expert commentary, and moderated dialogue by leading scholars in local and urban governance. The event is held online (via Zoom) and is open to registered participants.
