Biography


Willemien is a professional planner and senior researcher in the Urban and Regional Planning research group in CSIR's Smart Places. The group conducts research into spatial change phenomena with a view to inform urban spatial planning and policy in cities and regions of South Africa. Willemien is highly experienced as the project lead on the Green Book, an online decision-support tool for local government to adapt South African settlements to climate change. She has over 20 years’ experience in working as a consultant, researcher and lecturer in a multi- and interdisciplinary environment. She has a proven track record in decision and planning support as it relates to city and regional planning and development, and in particular with regards to disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation.
